setting
superpowers is an offshoot replacement for the gpsl evolving. we are set in new york city. we know, we know! it's overdone. but we feel as though new york city is the best location for a superhero gpsl. that doesn't mean your character has to be from new york city. your character can be from anywhere in the universe. they just have to live or at the very least frequent nyc. why they're there is up to you! in this universe, superheros have been around for about 25 years. their presence is known though many stay hidden and hiding while some are constantly in the headlines. if you'd like to give your character an alter ego name (ie. wonder woman, batman) you can and we encourage it! the press could have given it to them or they could have named themselves. they can be new personas or they can have a history. that's up to you. the world (government and law enforcement) currently generally frowns at most superheroes and would like to find a way to register and keep track of them but so far every attmpt as failed.

characters
that brings us to what kind of characters you can bring. your character doesn't have to be a superhero. they can be an anti-hero or someone neutral that just wants to live their life but keeps getting pulled into superhero bullshit. your characters have to be original but that doesn't mean you can't take ideas from comics. you can have a normal guy who is rich and smart that builds his own gear like tony stark or bruce wayne. you can bring a mutated being like someone in x-men. you can bring an alien god like thor and come up with a planet they reigned over. you can bring someone that was bit by something radioactive. you can bring someone that was hit by lightening and developed abilities after. get it? for now we'd prefer that you don't bring big villains. characters that dabble with the gray area of a villain's agenda are absolutely fine. characters that use their powers for not so moral and wholesome things are absolutely welcome! but our big bads and main villains will all be npcs because eventually they'll be defeated and/or thwarted.

when creating a character please keep in mind that we'd hate to see a character that has no weaknesses or flaws. your character can have abilities and powers and more than one even but please be reasonable about it. they shouldn't have super strength, super speed, the ability to fly, a genius level iq, an impenetrable suit and just one flaw (cough-kryptonite-cough) to round them off. your characters should be beatable and they shouldn't win every single battle. no, this doesn't mean that they should never win but even the biggest superheroes get their asses kicked sometimes.

as for civilian characters joining, yes! we do allow that. the lois lanes and pepper potts of the world are welcome so long as they have a direct connection to the superhero community and/or one of the superhero esque characters. we don't anticipate a lot of characters like this but they could always develop powers or have something happen to them later that would put them right dab in the middle of everything.

the online network
you should treat your character's online interaction as a special forum that only people with abilities and people connected to them know about. it's ran by an npc and exists for underground communication between those apart of it. every so often the network will be compromised and our friendly networker will rename and re-route it while keeping your character's journals and correspondence in tact while masking it's existence once again.

joining!
since we are a gpsl for right now we don't require too much to join. your usernames should be ooc and related to your character somehow whether it's related to their abilities, flaws, personality, etc. you should have an ic and ooc post up! your ooc post should contain the the following information:
character's full name:
alter ego: if none, n/a
birthdate & age:
hometown/planet/etc.:
abilities & major flaws
once you're ready to apply you should make sure your examples are in order. we'll look at any of your writing but preferably third person scenes first and foremost. please be sure to link us to your examples. do not pm or copy and paste them. we should see at least 2 scenes with more than one response from you. narratives are welcome as substitutes. we allow all updates here so you can share with us any kind of update example though narratives would be preferred. we just want to know that you can constuct a sentence properly!

activty and interaction
even though we're a laid back gpsl we do require one update a month. your update can be anything you want! we don't have a word count on narratives or expectations for your updates! in spite of this however, we encourage you update with something substantial so that we can learn about your character and their development. if we do expand and become a bigger place some update rules will change. as for interaction on the fp we can't stress enough how important it is to participate in plot posts and activities. it's an obvious thing to say but we'd die without activity. intros must be posted within 72 hours. we reserve the right to remove any member that we feel is not participating outside of their personal customs. commenting new members, plots and activities should be your #1 priority. checking your fp often isn't hard to do and we don't anticipate it moving so fast that people cannot keep up.
